A disavow file tells Google to ignore specific low-quality or spammy backlinks when evaluating your site, which matters if those links are the result of a past negative SEO attack, an old, ill-advised link-building campaign, or spam you never solicited but that’s accumulated pointing at your domain regardless.
Disavow file preparation & upload
A disavow file prepared and uploaded for genuinely harmful backlinks — not a just-in-case habit.
- Full backup taken before we start
- If we can’t fix it, you get your money back
- We never ask for your own password
What we need from you
- A list of the specific backlinks or domains you want disavowed, or confirmation you want us to identify candidates
- Confirmation this isn’t being used as a substitute for addressing an active manual action, if one exists
- Access to Search Console with permission to submit the disavow file
This or something else?
| You have specific low-quality backlinks you want Google to ignore | This fix covers it |
| You’ve received a formal manual action citing unnatural links specifically | Manual action review & remediation report, a more urgent, related situation |
| You’re not sure whether you actually have a harmful backlink problem worth disavowing anything for | Worth a careful, honest assessment first — disavowing without genuine cause can do more harm than good |
| You want a broader link audit, not specifically preparing a disavow file | Outbound link audit & rel attribute tagging covers your own outbound links, a different scope |
What we do
- Review your backlink profile for genuinely low-quality or spammy links, where requested
- Confirm the specific list of domains or URLs to disavow
- Prepare the disavow file in Google’s required format
- Upload it through Search Console
- Confirm successful submission
- Document what was disavowed and why, for your own record
What is included
- A properly formatted disavow file prepared and uploaded
- Confirmed successful submission through Search Console
- A written record of what was disavowed and the reasoning
- Guidance on whether disavowing is genuinely warranted for your situation
Not included
- Submitting or managing a reconsideration request tied to a manual action, a separate, related process
- Guaranteeing removal of any ranking impact the disavowed links may have caused
- Ongoing backlink monitoring as a standing service
- Legal action against whoever created the spammy links, which is outside a technical fix’s scope
Questions about this fix
Should every site have a disavow file, just in case?
No — disavowing is a targeted tool for genuinely harmful links, and using it without real cause on an otherwise clean backlink profile isn't necessary and can occasionally do more harm than good if applied carelessly.
Will disavowing links definitely fix a ranking drop I'm experiencing?
Not necessarily — a ranking drop can have many causes, and disavowing is specifically for addressing a genuine harmful-link problem, not a general-purpose fix for any decline in performance.
How do I know if a backlink is actually harmful, versus just low quality?
This takes genuine judgment based on the link's context, the linking site's overall reputation, and whether there's a pattern suggesting manipulation — we assess this carefully rather than disavowing indiscriminately based on a single metric.
Is this urgent if I've already received a formal manual action?
Yes, that's a more urgent situation — a manual action review and remediation report is the more appropriate, comprehensive first step if you've already been formally notified, since disavowing is typically just one part of that broader response.
Can I undo a disavow if I later decide a link wasn't actually harmful?
Yes, the disavow file can be updated or resubmitted without a specific link included, though it's worth being deliberate about what goes in it from the start rather than treating it as easily reversible without consequence.

If this is the second time this year
A bad update breaking the site is a symptom of updates not being tested first. Care plans run every update on a staging clone before it reaches your live site, which is the actual fix for this happening again.
Your access, your rules
Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.
We back up first, always
Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.
If it is not what you bought
If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.
If we cannot fix it
You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.
If it comes back
Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.
What we are responsible for
If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
