Home / Fix a Problem / Store Not Working / Shipping method & zone configuration errors

WooCommerce matches a customer’s address to a shipping zone and offers whatever methods that zone contains. When zones overlap, or an address matches nothing, customers see wrong rates or no option at all — and no option means they cannot check out. The logic is simple; the configurations that build up over time are not.

Before you buy, one quick look

Read-only. In WooCommerce → Settings → Shipping, look at your zones and the order they are listed in.

WooCommerce uses the first zone that matches, not the most specific one. If a broad zone sits above a narrow one, the narrow one never applies. That single detail explains most shipping problems we see.

Also check whether a Rest of the World zone exists. Without one, any unmatched address gets nothing.

Shipping method & zone configuration errors

Shipping rates show wrongly, or not at all, for some customers. We rebuild the zone and method configuration so every address gets a correct, valid option.

What you are seeing

  • Customers seeing no shipping method available at checkout
  • Rates that are wrong for certain countries, states or postcodes
  • Free shipping applying when it should not, or not applying when it should
  • Rates that changed unexpectedly after a plugin update
  • Local pickup showing to customers who cannot use it

Common causes

  • Zones ordered so a broad zone matches before a specific one
  • No Rest of the World zone, leaving unmatched addresses with nothing
  • Postcode or region rules that do not match the format customers actually enter
  • Class-based rates set on some products and not others
  • Two shipping plugins both calculating and conflicting

What we do

  1. Take a full backup before touching anything
  2. Map your current zones, methods and the order they resolve in
  3. Test representative addresses from each market you sell to
  4. Rebuild zone structure so every address matches exactly one intended zone
  5. Correct rates, classes and conditions to match your stated policy
  6. Verify at checkout with real addresses from each zone

What is included

  • Shipping resolving correctly for every market you sell to, tested
  • Zone structure that is understandable and maintainable
  • A note explaining the logic so future changes are safe
  • The pre-fix backup, kept for 30 days

Not included

  • Negotiating rates with carriers, or advising on pricing strategy
  • Live carrier rate integration, which is a separate service
  • Building custom shipping logic, which we quote separately
  • Design changes or content work

Questions about this fix

Why do some customers see no shipping at all?

Their address matches no zone, or matches a zone with no method in it. Both mean checkout cannot complete. A correctly configured Rest of the World zone prevents it entirely, and most stores are missing one.

My zones look right but the wrong rate shows.

Almost always zone order. WooCommerce takes the first match, not the best match. A broad zone above a specific one means the specific one is never reached, and the fix is often just reordering.

Can you set up rates I have not decided yet?

We configure what you tell us. If you have not settled your rates, send the policy in plain language and we will translate it into zones and methods — but the commercial decision stays yours.

Will this change what existing customers pay?

Only where it was wrong. We show you what changes before applying anything that affects live rates, so nothing shifts underneath your customers without you knowing.

Do zone changes apply to carts already in progress?

No — a cart already showing shipping options keeps what it calculated until the customer refreshes or returns to the cart. Nobody gets switched mid-checkout.

Your access, your rules

Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.

We back up first, always

Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.

If it is not what you bought

If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.

If we cannot fix it

You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.

If it comes back

Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.

What we are responsible for

If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
