Quiz and grading errors — incorrect scores, questions not saving, grading rules not applying as configured — usually stem from a quiz builder configuration issue, a grading rule conflicting with itself, or a plugin update changing how scoring is calculated.
Quiz & grading configuration errors
Quiz scoring or grading traced to the actual configuration gap and corrected.
- Full backup taken before we start
- If we can’t fix it, you get your money back
- We never ask for your own password
This or something else?
| A quiz is scoring incorrectly, not saving questions, or grading rules aren’t applying | This fix covers it |
| You want quiz or grading rules configured for the first time, not an existing error fixed | Still covered by this fix, treated as an initial setup rather than a repair |
| The issue is progress tracking generally, not quiz scoring specifically | Progress tracking data repair |
| A certificate isn’t generating because of a quiz-scoring issue feeding into it | Worth mentioning as related — we’d address the quiz issue and check the certificate trigger together |
What you are seeing
- A quiz scoring incorrectly despite correct answers being selected
- Questions or answers not saving after a member submits
- A passing grade threshold not applying as configured
- The issue possibly affecting only one specific quiz or question type
Common causes
- A quiz builder configuration error in how correct answers or scoring weights are set
- A grading rule conflicting with another rule applied to the same quiz
- A plugin update changing how scoring is calculated internally
- A specific question type (multiple-select, fill-in-the-blank) not evaluating correctly due to a configuration gap
- A time limit or attempt-count restriction cutting off a submission before all answers are recorded and scored
What we do
- Reproduce the scoring or saving issue with a test attempt
- Review the quiz configuration against the intended scoring rules
- Correct the specific misconfiguration or conflict found
- Verify a test attempt now scores and saves correctly
- Check other quizzes for the same underlying issue
What is included
- The quiz or grading issue identified and corrected
- A verified, correctly scoring and saving test attempt
- A check across other quizzes for the same issue
- The pre-fix backup, kept for 30 days
Not included
- Configuring quiz or grading rules from scratch, if not already attempted
- Progress tracking issues unrelated to quiz scoring specifically — a separate, related fix
- Certificate generation itself — a separate, related fix if also affected
- Ongoing monitoring for future quiz configuration issues
Questions about this fix
Could this affect scores that were already recorded before the fix?
We'd check whether previously recorded scores were affected by the same issue and flag if a correction to historical records is needed, separate from fixing the issue going forward.
Why would only one question type be affected and not others?
Different question types (multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, multiple-select) are often evaluated by separate logic internally, so a configuration gap can affect just one type while others work correctly.
Is this urgent if members are getting incorrect results?
Yes, worth prioritising if members are seeing inaccurate scores, since that affects both their experience and, potentially, certificate eligibility.
Could a plugin update really change how scoring works without me changing anything?
Yes, an update can alter internal scoring logic or default configuration in ways that break a previously working setup.
Will this include checking if a related certificate is also affected?
If the certificate depends on this quiz's scoring, we'd check that connection too and flag it if a related certificate fix is also needed.

If this is the second time this year
A bad update breaking the site is a symptom of updates not being tested first. Care plans run every update on a staging clone before it reaches your live site, which is the actual fix for this happening again.
Your access, your rules
Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.
We back up first, always
Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.
If it is not what you bought
If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.
If we cannot fix it
You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.
If it comes back
Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.
What we are responsible for
If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
