“admin” is the first username every automated attack tries, and a site still using it as its administrator login has already given away half the puzzle to anyone attempting to guess in. Changing it to something unpredictable removes that specific, well-known weakness without changing anything else about how you actually use the site.

Needs WP admin login and Database access. Create a limited sub-account — we never ask for your own password.
  • Full backup taken before we start
  • If we can’t fix it, you get your money back
  • We never ask for your own password
Why this costs $49. An hour of a capable WordPress developer’s time runs about $82 in the UK, $100 in the US and $105 in the Gulf, and for anything urgent a two-hour minimum is normal. This is $49 for up to 45 minutes of hands-on work, with a full backup taken before we start. 2026 market rates.

What we need from you

  • Admin database access, since this is a direct data change rather than a dashboard setting
  • Your preferred new username
  • Confirmation of any automations, integrations, or scripts that reference the current username directly, so nothing breaks

What we do

  1. Confirm the current username and the desired replacement
  2. Check for any integrations or scripts referencing the current username directly
  3. Change the username at the database level, since WordPress doesn’t offer this natively through the dashboard
  4. Verify the account still logs in correctly under the new username
  5. Confirm no other account references broke as a result
  6. Provide the new login details securely

What is included

  • The administrator username changed to your chosen replacement
  • Verification the account logs in correctly afterward
  • A check for broken integrations referencing the old username
  • The pre-change backup, kept for 30 days

Not included

  • Changing the password itself, unless also requested
  • Broader account audits or role reviews, a separate fix
  • Setting up two-factor authentication, a complementary fix
  • Resolving an unrelated login issue not caused by this change

Questions about this fix

Why can't I just change this myself in the dashboard?

WordPress doesn't offer a native option to change a username once created — it has to be done directly at the database level, which is why this is a distinct fix rather than a setting you can flip yourself.

Will this log me out of the site once it's changed?

Your current session may end, requiring you to log back in with the new username, which we'll confirm works correctly before finishing.

Could this break any plugins or integrations that reference my old username?

It's possible if something references the username directly rather than the underlying user ID, which is why we check for that before making the change.

Is this worth doing if I already have a strong password?

Yes — a strong password is still one factor; removing the predictable username removes an entire avenue of attack that a strong password alone doesn't address.

Should I also change my email address associated with the account?

Not necessarily part of this fix, though it's worth considering separately if the current email is similarly easy to guess or publicly known.

Your access, your rules

Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.

We back up first, always

Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.

If it is not what you bought

If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.

If we cannot fix it

You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.

If it comes back

Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.

What we are responsible for

If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
