Home / Ongoing Work / Hosting & Infrastructure / Hosting resource limit & throttling diagnosis

This report investigates why your site is being throttled or hitting resource limits — and how deep we can dig depends genuinely on what your host’s control panel exposes; some hosts provide detailed resource usage graphs and logs, others show almost nothing beyond a generic “limit exceeded” message, which itself becomes part of what the report tells you.

What we need from you

  • Access to your hosting control panel and whatever resource usage information it exposes
  • Confirmation of when you’ve noticed throttling or limit-related symptoms
  • Confirmation of your current hosting plan, since resource limits are typically plan-tied

This or something else?

Your site is down right now because of this, an urgent situation Site Down & Critical Errors category fixes may be more appropriate for the immediate emergency

What we do

  1. Review whatever resource usage information your host’s control panel exposes
  2. Identify patterns suggesting what’s actually triggering the throttling or limit
  3. Distinguish a genuine plan-level ceiling from a fixable configuration or code-level cause
  4. Compile findings into a clear, honest written report
  5. Recommend next steps, whether that’s a configuration fix, a code-level fix, or a plan upgrade conversation with your host
  6. Flag plainly if your host’s control panel simply doesn’t expose enough information to diagnose further

What is included

  • A thorough review of available resource usage information
  • A clear distinction between a fixable cause and a genuine plan-level limitation
  • A written, honest report with findings and recommendations
  • A quote for any identified fix, if you want it carried out

Not included

  • Fixing the underlying cause — quoted separately based on findings
  • Diagnosing further where your host’s control panel genuinely doesn’t expose sufficient information — that’s a limitation of the hosting environment, not something we can work around remotely
  • Negotiating with your host on your behalf for more resources or a plan upgrade
  • Ongoing monitoring for future throttling events

Questions about this fix

What if my host's control panel doesn't show detailed resource usage at all?

Some hosts genuinely provide very little visibility into this, in which case the report would reflect that limitation honestly — sometimes the only path forward at that point is asking your host's support team directly for information they hold but don't expose to you.

Will this report definitely find the cause?

We investigate thoroughly with whatever's available, though a host with minimal diagnostic exposure can genuinely limit how conclusively we can pin down the cause — we'd tell you plainly if that's the situation rather than guessing.

Could this just mean I need to upgrade my hosting plan?

Possibly, if the report finds you're consistently and legitimately using more resources than your plan allows — that's a genuine, valid outcome, and we'd present it clearly as one possible, honest conclusion rather than always assuming a technical fix exists instead.

Is throttling the same as my site being slow generally?

Not necessarily — throttling is a specific hosting-level response to exceeding a resource limit, which can cause slowness or errors, but general slowness can also have entirely different causes unrelated to any hosting-level limit.

How urgent is this kind of investigation?

It depends on how disruptive the throttling currently is — occasional, minor throttling is less urgent than frequent, site-affecting limit hits, which is worth mentioning when describing your situation.

Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.

We back up first, always

Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.

If it is not what you bought

If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.
