A custom role lets you grant exactly the capabilities a specific job needs — a content editor who shouldn’t touch orders, a support agent who needs to see customer data but not site settings — without handing out full administrator access just because nothing built into WordPress fits the actual job.
Custom role creation from supplied spec
A custom role built to exactly the capabilities a job needs, no more and no less.
- Full backup taken before we start
- If we can’t fix it, you get your money back
- We never ask for your own password
What we need from you
- A written spec of exactly what the role should and shouldn’t be able to do
- Confirmation of how many users will initially be assigned this role
- Any existing role you’d like this one based on, if one comes close
This or something else?
| You need a new role with a specific, defined set of capabilities | This fix covers it |
| An existing role isn’t granting the capabilities it should | User role & capability repair, a different situation |
| You want a role’s menu visibility cleaned up, not new capabilities defined | Admin menu & dashboard access cleanup |
| Two plugins define conflicting capabilities for the same role | Capability conflict between plugins |
What we do
- Review your supplied spec and confirm exactly which capabilities it implies
- Build the custom role with precisely those capabilities, no more and no less
- Test the role thoroughly against a real account to confirm it behaves as specified
- Check for any unintended access gaps or overlaps with existing roles
- Assign the role to your specified initial users
- Document the role’s capabilities for future reference
What is included
- A custom role built to your exact specification
- Tested confirmation the role grants and restricts access as intended
- Initial user assignment to the new role
- A written record of the role’s defined capabilities
Not included
- Repairing an existing role’s broken capabilities, a separate, related fix
- Ongoing changes to the role as your needs evolve
- Bulk user import into the new role, a separate, related fix if needed
- Resolving conflicts with plugins that define their own competing roles
Questions about this fix
What if I'm not sure exactly what capabilities I need to specify?
We can work through this with you based on the actual job the role needs to do, translating a plain description of responsibilities into the specific WordPress capabilities that match.
Can I have this role based on an existing one, with a few changes?
Yes, starting from a close existing role and adjusting is often more reliable than building entirely from scratch, and we'll flag if that's the better approach for your spec.
Will this role definition survive a WordPress or plugin update?
Custom roles are stored in the database and generally persist through updates, though a plugin that manages its own roles could occasionally interact with this — worth flagging if you use one.
Can I have more than one custom role created at once?
Yes, if your spec covers multiple distinct roles, we can build all of them as part of the same fix.
How do I add more users to this role later?
Once created, assigning the role to additional users is a standard part of the WordPress user screen, not something requiring our involvement each time.

If this is the second time this year
A bad update breaking the site is a symptom of updates not being tested first. Care plans run every update on a staging clone before it reaches your live site, which is the actual fix for this happening again.
Your access, your rules
Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.
We back up first, always
Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.
If it is not what you bought
If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.
If we cannot fix it
You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.
If it comes back
Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.
What we are responsible for
If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
