Importing users in bulk from a spreadsheet sounds simple until the actual data doesn’t quite match what WordPress expects — duplicate emails, inconsistent role names, missing required fields — and a failed import partway through can leave you with a confusing mix of created and not-created accounts to untangle by hand.

This or something else?

You have a CSV of users you want imported into WordPress This fix covers it

You need a custom role created first, before importing users into it Custom role creation from supplied spec
Users are registering through a form and something’s going wrong in that process User registration flow errors, a different situation

What we do

  1. Review the supplied CSV for formatting issues before attempting import
  2. Correct or flag any problematic rows (duplicates, missing fields, invalid emails)
  3. Map spreadsheet columns to the correct WordPress user fields
  4. Run the import in a controlled way, checking progress rather than all at once
  5. Verify a sample of imported accounts for accuracy
  6. Provide a summary of what was imported, skipped, or flagged for your review

What is included

  • Your CSV data imported into WordPress with correct field mapping
  • Problematic rows identified and resolved or flagged before import
  • Verification of a sample of imported accounts
  • A written summary of the import results

Not included

  • Creating a custom role for the imported users, a separate, related fix if needed
  • Cleaning your source data beyond correcting clear formatting issues
  • Setting up welcome emails or onboarding flows for new users
  • Ongoing imports as new data becomes available later

Questions about this fix

What happens if some rows in my CSV have errors?

We flag and resolve what we reasonably can, and bring genuinely ambiguous cases back to you rather than guessing at what a malformed row was supposed to contain.

Will this create duplicate accounts if some users already exist?

No — we check for existing accounts by email first and handle them according to your preference, either updating or skipping, rather than creating duplicates by default.

Can I import users directly into a custom role that doesn't exist yet?

Not until the role exists — if you need a role created first, that's a quick, related fix we can do beforehand so the import has somewhere correct to assign users.

Will imported users be notified automatically?

Not unless specifically configured to — we can discuss whether you want a welcome or notification email sent as part of this, since it's not automatic by default.

What if my spreadsheet has thousands of rows?

Larger imports just take more careful handling and verification, not a different process — we'll flag if the volume changes anything about turnaround.

Your access, your rules

Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.

We back up first, always

Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.

If it is not what you bought

If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.

If we cannot fix it

You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.

If it comes back

Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.

What we are responsible for

If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
