Home / Ongoing Work / Hosting & Infrastructure / PHP resource limits (memory, execution, upload) tuning

We tune PHP resource limits — memory, maximum execution time, upload file size — through your control panel, and like PHP version changes, these are often capped by your hosting plan’s own ceiling, meaning a setting you want raised might simply not be adjustable past what your specific plan allows.

Check your control panel’s actual PHP settings section for the true ceiling

Most control panels show both the current value and the maximum allowed value for each PHP setting. If the maximum shown is lower than what you actually need, that’s your hosting plan’s own limit, not a setting we failed to adjust correctly.

Why this costs $49. An hour of a capable WordPress developer’s time runs about $82 in the UK, $100 in the US and $105 in the Gulf, and for anything urgent a two-hour minimum is normal. This is $49 for up to 45 minutes of hands-on work, with a full backup taken before we start. 2026 market rates.

What we need from you

  • Access to your hosting control panel’s PHP settings
  • The specific limits you need adjusted and to what values
  • Confirmation of what’s currently failing due to the limit, if that’s what prompted this

This or something else?

You need PHP memory, execution time, or upload limits adjusted This fix covers it
You want the PHP version itself changed, or a specific extension enabled PHP version & extension changes at server level
A specific error is occurring that you suspect is resource-limit related Still covered by this fix, treated as a diagnostic starting point rather than a known adjustment
Your plan’s maximum limit genuinely isn’t enough for what you need We’ll confirm this plainly — a plan upgrade would be the path forward, which is your decision with your host

What we do

  1. Confirm which specific limits need adjusting and to what values
  2. Check your control panel’s actual maximum allowed values for each
  3. Adjust settings within what your plan permits
  4. Verify the site functions correctly with the new limits
  5. Test specifically whatever was failing due to the previous limit, to confirm it now works
  6. Document what was changed, and clearly note any limit that couldn’t be raised further on your current plan

What is included

  • PHP resource limits adjusted wherever your control panel and plan allow it
  • Verified site function under the new limits
  • Confirmed resolution of whatever was failing due to the previous limit, where the adjustment was sufficient
  • Clear documentation of what was and wasn’t possible on your current plan

Not included

  • Raising a limit beyond what your specific hosting plan’s own ceiling allows — that’s a plan-level restriction, not something we can configure around
  • Fixing an underlying issue that resource limits alone don’t actually resolve — worth confirming this is genuinely the cause before adjusting
  • Upgrading your hosting plan itself, your decision with your host directly
  • Ongoing adjustment as your site’s resource needs grow over time

Questions about this fix

What if I need more memory than my plan's maximum allows?

That's a genuine ceiling on your current hosting plan — we'd confirm the actual maximum available and, if it's genuinely insufficient for your needs, discuss what upgrading would involve, since that's a decision between you and your host.

How do I know if a resource limit is actually causing my specific problem?

We'd check the specific error you're experiencing against what these limits actually govern — some issues that look resource-related have an entirely different cause, which we'd identify rather than assuming a limit increase will fix something unrelated.

Will increasing these limits slow down my site or cost more?

Higher resource allowances generally don't slow down your site directly, though depending on your hosting plan's structure, some hosts may charge more for higher resource tiers — worth confirming with your specific host if that's a concern.

Is there a risk in setting these limits too high?

Extremely high limits can occasionally mask an underlying inefficiency (like a memory leak) rather than genuinely needing that much resource, which is worth being aware of rather than treating a higher limit as an unconditional improvement.

Can this be adjusted per-site if I have multiple sites on the same hosting account?

This depends on your specific hosting plan's structure — some allow per-site PHP configuration, others apply settings account-wide, which we'd confirm for your setup.

Your access, your rules

Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.

We back up first, always

Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.

If it is not what you bought

If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.

If we cannot fix it

You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.

If it comes back

Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.

What we are responsible for

If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
