We compile a written history of significant changes and maintenance events on your site — major updates, migrations, incidents — drawn from available records (backups, logs, your own recollection), useful when nobody currently has a clear timeline of what’s happened and when.
Change log & maintenance history report
A compiled history of your site's significant changes and maintenance events, from available records.
- Full backup taken before we start
- If we can’t fix it, you get your money back
- We never ask for your own password
What we need from you
- Access to whatever historical records exist (backups, logs, past correspondence)
- Your own recollection of significant events, to supplement what records show
- Confirmation of how far back you’d like this to cover
This or something else?
| You want a compiled history of significant changes and maintenance events | This fix covers it |
| You want an ongoing activity log installed instead of a historical compilation | Activity log installation & retention config, in the Hosting & Infrastructure bucket, the going-forward version |
| You want a specific past incident investigated in depth | Worth describing the specific situation directly — a more focused, diagnostic look |
| You want plugin and theme rationale documented, not a change history | Plugin & theme inventory with rationale |
What we do
- Review available records for significant historical events
- Combine this with your own recollection where records are incomplete
- Compile into a clear, chronological written history
- Note any gaps where information genuinely isn’t available
- Review for accuracy against what’s confirmable
What is included
- A compiled written history of significant changes and events
- Combined use of available records and your own recollection
- Clear chronological organisation
- Honest notes on any gaps in available information
Not included
- Setting up ongoing activity logging going forward — a separate, related, complementary fix
- Deep investigation of a specific past incident — a separate, more focused task
- Recovering information that genuinely doesn’t exist in any record or memory
- Ongoing maintenance of this history going forward, unless paired with the activity log fix
Questions about this fix
What if there aren't good records for some periods?
We'd note this honestly rather than inventing detail — a gap in the historical record is a real limitation worth being upfront about, not something to paper over.
Is this the same as installing an activity log?
No — an activity log tracks activity going forward automatically; this compiles what's already happened from whatever records and recollection are available now.
How far back can this realistically go?
As far back as records or memory can genuinely support — very old history with no remaining records is difficult to reconstruct reliably.
Would this help me understand a recurring issue's actual timeline?
Potentially, if the issue's history is at least partially traceable through your available records — worth mentioning any specific recurring concern so we can pay particular attention to it.
Should I also set up ongoing logging so this is easier to compile in future?
Worth considering — the activity log fix specifically addresses that going forward, making a future version of this kind of history considerably easier to compile accurately.

If this is the second time this year
A bad update breaking the site is a symptom of updates not being tested first. Care plans run every update on a staging clone before it reaches your live site, which is the actual fix for this happening again.
Your access, your rules
Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.
We back up first, always
Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.
If it is not what you bought
If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.
If we cannot fix it
You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.
If it comes back
Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.
What we are responsible for
If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
