Home / Fix a Problem / Site is Slow / Slow site diagnostic report

A diagnostic report answers one question properly: exactly what is making this site slow, in order of how much time each cause is actually costing, not a checklist of generic recommendations. Most speed tools generate a long list of suggestions regardless of the site; this measures your site specifically and tells you which three or four things are worth doing and which are noise.

What makes a proper diagnosis different from running a tool

Free tools like PageSpeed Insights give you a score and a list of recommendations that don’t account for each other; fixing one item on the list sometimes has no effect because something further down is the actual bottleneck.

This report measures load in order — server response, database, front-end assets, third-party scripts — and tells you where the time is genuinely going, not just what a generic scanner flagged in isolation.

It’s also written to be understood without a technical background. A raw PageSpeed export is full of jargon aimed at developers; this translates the same underlying measurements into what’s actually costing time and what to do about each one, in an order that reflects impact rather than however the tool happened to list them.

It’s worth commissioning this before, not after, spending on a specific fix if you’re not sure which one applies. We’ve measured sites where the owner had already paid for a caching setup that made almost no difference, because the actual bottleneck was a database query running on every page load, not the lack of caching at all.

Slow site diagnostic report

You want to know exactly what's making your site slow, ranked by how much it's actually costing, before spending on a fix. We measure it and tell you plainly.

  • Full backup taken before we start
  • If we can’t fix it, you get your money back
  • We never ask for your own password
Why this costs $49. An hour of a capable WordPress developer’s time runs about $82 in the UK, $100 in the US and $105 in the Gulf, and for anything urgent a two-hour minimum is normal. This is $49 for up to 45 minutes of hands-on work, with a full backup taken before we start. 2026 market rates.

What we need from you

  • The pages or areas where slowness is most noticeable, if you’ve noticed a pattern
  • Any speed tools or scores you’ve already run, so we’re not duplicating them
  • Whether the slowness is recent or has always been present
  • Access to hosting or analytics if you want server-side data included in the report

This or something else?

You want to know exactly what’s slow and why before spending on a fix This fix covers it
You already know the cause and just want it fixed The specific fix for that cause
Only the database is suspected Database query performance audit
Only the admin area is slow Slow admin dashboard fix
You want ongoing monitoring, not a one-time report Core Web Vitals monitoring setup

What we do

  1. Measure server response time, database query time, and front-end load time separately
  2. Test key pages — the homepage, a product or content page, and any page you’ve flagged
  3. Identify third-party scripts and each one’s individual cost to the page
  4. Rank causes by how much time each one is actually costing, not by a generic severity label
  5. Note anything that would need its own separate fix, and roughly what kind of work that is
  6. Deliver the report in plain language, not a raw tool export you have to interpret yourself

What is included

  • A ranked list of what’s actually slowing the site down, in order of impact
  • Server, database and front-end load time measured separately
  • Recommendations specific to your site, not a generic checklist
  • A written report you can act on yourself, hand to your own developer, or bring back to us for the fix

Not included

  • Implementing the fixes identified, which is quoted separately once you know what’s needed
  • Ongoing performance monitoring
  • A guarantee of a specific speed score afterwards
  • Testing every single page on a large site individually, rather than representative templates

Questions about this fix

Why not just run PageSpeed Insights myself for free?

You can, and it's a useful start — but it gives you a list of suggestions with no sense of which ones matter for your specific site, or whether fixing one will actually move the needle if something else is the real bottleneck. This report tells you that part.

Will you just tell me to buy your other fixes?

The report names what's actually wrong, and some of what we find you can fix yourself for free — a plugin left active that shouldn't be, a setting left on default. We say so where that's true rather than pointing everything at a paid fix.

How long does the diagnosis take?

Long enough to test properly rather than run one automated scan — we're measuring real load behaviour across a few key pages, not compiling an instant score from a single tool.

Can I get this for a competitor's site to compare?

No, this is diagnostic access to your own site's hosting, database and admin, which we need in order to measure server and database time properly, not just what's visible in a browser.

What if the report says nothing major is wrong?

That happens, and it's a useful answer too. If your site is close to as fast as its current hosting and setup allow, we tell you that rather than manufacture a longer list to justify the report.

If this is the second time this year

A bad update breaking the site is a symptom of updates not being tested first. Care plans run every update on a staging clone before it reaches your live site, which is the actual fix for this happening again.

Your access, your rules

Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.

We back up first, always

Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.

If it is not what you bought

If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.

If we cannot fix it

You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.

If it comes back

Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.

What we are responsible for

If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
