We analyse your old and new URL structures and generate a redirect mapping file — a deliverable you or we can then implement — useful before a migration where the URL patterns are changing enough that a simple like-for-like mapping isn’t obvious.

What we need from you

  • Access to your current site’s full URL list (via sitemap or crawl)
  • Confirmation of the new URL structure or destination site
  • Any known exceptions or special cases to account for

This or something else?

You need a redirect map generated ahead of a URL structure change or migration This fix covers it
You already have a mapping and want it implemented Bulk redirect import from supplied map, in the Content & Updates bucket, the implementation step
You want the full migration handled end to end, not just the mapping generated Domain change – full site URL migration, or the relevant migration fix
You have only a handful of URLs changing, not enough to need a generated map Single redirect setup, a simpler, direct fix

What we do

  1. Crawl or review your current site’s full URL structure
  2. Analyse the new structure or destination against it
  3. Generate a proposed mapping from old URLs to new equivalents
  4. Flag any URL with no clear, confident match for your review
  5. Deliver the mapping file for implementation
  6. Note anything unusual found during analysis

What is included

  • A generated redirect mapping file covering your current URL structure
  • Flags for URLs without a clear, confident match
  • Notes on anything unusual found

Not included

  • Implementing the generated map as live redirects — a separate, related fix
  • The migration itself, a separate, larger fix if that’s what you actually need
  • Deciding the new URL structure — that’s your decision, we map against what you specify
  • Guaranteeing every URL maps cleanly, since some genuinely need a human decision

Questions about this fix

Will every URL get a confident, correct match?

Most straightforward cases will; anything genuinely ambiguous gets flagged for your decision rather than guessed at.

Do you also implement the redirects, or just generate the map?

This generates the map; implementing it as live redirects is a separate, related fix once you've reviewed and approved the mapping.

What if my new URL structure isn't finalised yet?

Worth finalising that first — the map is generated against a specific new structure, so an unsettled destination makes the analysis less useful.

How large a site can this handle?

This scales to a large URL count — a bigger site just means more entries to review and more flagged edge cases to work through.

Is this useful for a simple, one-to-one URL change?

Not especially — for a small, obvious set of changes, a direct redirect setup is simpler and faster than generating a full mapping analysis.

A bad update breaking the site is a symptom of updates not being tested first. Care plans run every update on a staging clone before it reaches your live site, which is the actual fix for this happening again.

Your access, your rules

Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.

We back up first, always

Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.

If it is not what you bought

If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.

If we cannot fix it

You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.

If it comes back

Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.

What we are responsible for

If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
