Home / Fix a Problem / Emails Not Arriving / WooCommerce order email deliverability fix

WooCommerce sends a specific set of transactional emails — order confirmation, processing, completed, failed, refunded — and when customers stop receiving them, the order itself is usually still recorded correctly; it’s only the notification that’s failing to arrive, which makes this easy to miss until a customer asks where their receipt is.

Check an order’s own email status in WooCommerce’s logs

Go to WooCommerce → Status → Logs and look for entries around the time of a recent order — many mail-related failures leave a specific error there even when nothing looks wrong in the order itself.

If nothing shows in the logs at all, that tells us the email may not even be attempting to send, which is a different problem than one that’s sending but failing.

This or something else?

WooCommerce order emails specifically not arriving This fix covers it
No emails from the site arrive at all, not just orders A broader, site-wide sending diagnosis
Orders themselves are missing or not being created A different, order-processing fix
Emails arrive but with wrong or missing information Email template branding & formatting repair
Only customers report missing emails, not your own admin notifications This fix covers it; worth confirming which direction fails

What you are seeing

  • Customers asking where their order confirmation is
  • Admin notification emails for new orders also missing, or only customer-facing ones
  • The order itself showing correctly in WooCommerce with no error
  • It may affect every order or only some, such as one payment method
  • May have started after a plugin update or a hosting/email provider change

Common causes

  • WooCommerce sending through WordPress’s default unauthenticated mail function
  • A specific order status’s email template disabled without realising it
  • The receiving mail provider filtering the message as spam or bulk mail
  • A caching or optimisation plugin interfering with the email-sending hook
  • The store’s sending address not matching an authenticated domain

What we do

  1. Check WooCommerce’s own email logs for the specific failure pattern
  2. Confirm which order statuses’ emails are enabled and correctly configured
  3. Set up or verify authenticated sending for the store’s from-address
  4. Test each affected email type with a real order
  5. Confirm delivery on both the customer and admin side
  6. Check spam placement specifically, not just whether it sent

What is included

  • The specific cause of missing order emails identified
  • Authenticated sending configured if that was the cause
  • All affected order-status emails tested and confirmed delivered
  • The pre-fix backup, kept for 30 days

Not included

  • Redesigning the order email templates, which is a separate fix
  • Recovering notifications for orders already missed before this fix
  • Setting up marketing or abandoned-cart emails, separate from transactional order emails
  • Fixing a payment gateway issue, if that turns out to be the actual cause

Questions about this fix

Were my past orders actually processed correctly even though the email didn't arrive?

Yes — the email and the order record are separate systems, so a missing notification doesn't mean anything went wrong with the order itself.

Does this affect emails to my customers, to me as the store admin, or both?

We check both directions specifically, since it's common for one to work while the other silently fails — telling us which you've noticed missing helps us prioritise.

Could a specific payment method be the reason only some orders are affected?

It's possible if that gateway triggers a different order status than usual, so we check whether the pattern lines up with a particular payment method.

Will fixing this resend notifications for past orders?

Not automatically, since resending old order emails can be more confusing than helpful this long after the fact — we can manually resend specific ones on request.

Is this the same fix as general email deliverability for the whole site?

Related but scoped differently — this focuses on WooCommerce's own transactional emails; a site-wide issue affecting every form and email is a broader diagnosis.

If this is the second time this year

A bad update breaking the site is a symptom of updates not being tested first. Care plans run every update on a staging clone before it reaches your live site, which is the actual fix for this happening again.

Your access, your rules

Create a separate admin account for us and delete it when we are done. For anything else, we get in touch and agree a method — never a form field on this site, never by reply to an email.

We back up first, always

Before anything is touched we take a full backup and keep it for 30 days. If a fix goes wrong, we put the site back exactly as it was.

If it is not what you bought

If the problem turns out smaller than what you ordered, we refund the difference. If it is bigger, we stop and send a quote before doing any extra work.

If we cannot fix it

You get back what we received. Diagnosis is on us — you only pay when the problem is actually solved. The payment processor takes its fee before the money reaches us, so we never hold it and it is not ours to return. That is true here as everywhere else.

If it comes back

Reply within seven days of delivery and we put it back on the bench at no cost. The fix is not finished until it holds.

What we are responsible for

If something goes wrong with a fix, our responsibility is limited to what you paid for it. We take a full backup first so mistakes can be undone, and we tell you before doing anything outside what you bought.
